The Women and Food Information Network grew out of the Tucson Conference on Women and Food, held at the University of Arizona in January 1978 to focus attention on women's roles in world food systems. Directed by Kathleen Cloud, the Network proposed and organized training workshops for personnel working for United States land grant and public universities seeking to implement Title XII, "Famine Prevention and Freedom from Hunger" of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.
